Listening to your podcast, and I find it very refreshing. Diversity is a HUGE problem in, especially, knitting. I’m a middle-aged black woman who’s been knitting since I was a 4-y-o child, and I still get odd looks from both blacks and whites. I’ve been excluded from every knitting circle at work (the white women) and the black women all tell me they tried once and couldn’t do it so they gave up. I’ve been trying to raise their awareness about the fact that knitting originated in Africa: http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O128882/sock-unknown/. I’m in DC, which is a VERY Southern town, and much more segregated than people wish to believe. My black friends have come to believe that knitting is solely the property of white women. Best wishes, and keep up the good work.
